![]() ![]() With this in mind, Apple will discontinue iTunes U at the end of 2021. Apps such as Pages, Numbers, Keynote, GarageBand, iMovie, Clips, and Swift Playgrounds have education-specific features that are used regularly by teachers and students. In addition to Classroom and Schoolwork, Apple also introduced Apple School Manager to enable IT Administrators to easily manage iPads, Macs, Apple TV, Apple IDs, books, and apps, while ensuring data is kept secure and private. Schoolwork helps teachers save time and maximize each student’s potential by making it easy for teachers to share class materials, get students to a specific activity in an app, collaborate with students, and view student progress.Classroom turns your iPad into a powerful teaching assistant, helping teachers guide students through a lesson, see their progress, and keep them on track.I published a recent article about how the lack of updates from Apple regarding iTunes U has led to Google Classroom growing in popularity during COVID-19.Īpple has been hard at work building the next generation of apps for both teachers and students: If you have iBooks Author books you’d like to import into Pages, a book import feature is coming to Pages soon. It will allow you to open and edit iBooks Author files (.iba) in Pages.Īpple has also announced that iTunes U will be discontinued at the end of 2021 (not the 2021 school year). You can continue to use iBooks Author on macOS 10.15 and earlier, and books previously published to Apple Books from iBooks Author will remain available. If you’ve previously downloaded the app, you can still access it from your App Store purchase history. IBooks Author will no longer be updated, and it won’t be available to new users as of July 1, 2020. Apple will be included an import function in a future version of Pages. This announcement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as we never saw iBooks Author transition into Apple Books Author or include a native iPad app. Much of the functionality from iBooks Author has made its way into Pages over the past few update cycles. IBooks Author will continue to work, but you’ll need to make preparations to transition to Pages in the near future. iBooks Author will no longer be updated, and iTunes U is being discontinued at the end of 2021. I'd say you wouldn't want to waste your time making a fictitious school or being dishonest on the application, but if you were unaffiliated, you might list that and see how the application process goes.I have previously written about my frustration With iBooks Author and iTunes U, and Apple has now announced both of these products are being discontinued. The system is clearly designed / worded to prevent just anyone from joining, but I don't know how strict Apple would be in approving an application. ![]() So, you might either find a school that allows you to begin publishing or consider forming one. Teachers not affiliated with schools that have public iTunes U sites are limited to 12 courses and 50 students per course. ![]() ![]() There is a second registration step for each institution to establish a public iTunes U page that also might have more detailed requirements to vet the existence of a formal organization, but the footnote 3 on the main marketing page for iTunes U lists: You could of course form a school since the categories look broad (Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, High School, Undergraduate, Graduate, Professional and/or Vocational) and it's not clear based on where you live what legal requirements are present to form a school. It asks you to define your affiliation with some sort of school - so that might be a problem if you don't have a school that will permit you to represent them. You will need to sign in with an Apple ID or make a new Apple ID to access this page. You can inspect the agreements that Apple wishes you to accept as part of the enrollment into iTunes U as an instructor from the web page: ![]()
